how to achieve your goals in 202
What do Benjamin Franklin and my mother have in common? Well, they both live(d) by the philosophy “watch the pennies, and the dollars will take care of themselves.”
They were, of course, talking about financial goals, but the strategy can be applied to all goal achieving. James Clear brought this concept to the masses in Atomic Habits. Essentially, the best (arguably, the only) way to achieve larger goals is to divide them into smaller goals, and then keep dividing until they take the form of daily habits or tasks. It isn’t rocket science. You simply have to keep asking yourself the same question over and over again - but how? You want to run a marathon? But how? Well, you need to develop your long distance running abilities. But how? Well you need to make time for three runs a week. But how? Well, you need to schedule them in your diary, eat complex carbohydrates before to fuel the body, eat protein after to help your muscles recover, and track your progress with a running app to ensure you are increasing your mileage. You may also have to reduce the amount of other training you are doing, stop going out for cocktails multiple times a week, and stop snoozing your alarm. There you have it, daily habits!
